Madaba Municipality introduces automated business licensing
AMMAN (JT) - Entrepreneurs seeking to establish or renew a business in Madaba can look forward to faster processing time as the Municipality of Greater Madaba has launched an automated business licensing and renewal system.
The USAID-funded AMIR Programme, in cooperation with the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and the Greater Madaba Municipality, completed a comprehensive reform of the municipality’s business licensing and renewal processes in 2005.
Before the system was implemented, the issuance of a professional license took between seven to 96 days, while renewing one took between 17 to 40 days, according to a USAID statement.
In addition, an average of 9-14 signatures were required for both processes, while the minimum estimated number of visits to the municipality and all other external entities for both the processes averaged around 10 visits.
Under the new automated system, entrepreneurs and established business owners can now process their applications through a customer service unit at the municipality and benefit from reduced costs and the risks associated with manual licensing, the statement said.
Most professional licenses are now issued in a day or two, and up to three weeks if a security clearance is required, while renewals are processed instantly.
The system was developed in cooperation with Al Jidara, a local business consulting firm, and AlliedSoft, a local software development firm responsible for designing, developing and implementing the automated system.
Under the project, a new website (www.madabacity.gov.jo) was also introduced for the Greater Madaba Municipality to provide up-to-date information on projects being implemented in the area.
Business owners can look up the procedures and requirements for licensing or renewing a business on the portal, as well as download e-forms.
